Need Suggestions on CPU FAN

The CPU fan that I currently have, runs at over 8000RPMS! It is too loud! I need a quieter one. I would like to know what should I put into consideration when it comes to buying a CPU fan? Remember, I want a good one that will provide good air flow to my AMD ATHLON XP 1800+ but not so loud like the one I got.

CHeck this one here :

I would like if you guys could show me some sites that just sell CPU Fans, and not a CPU FAN/HEAT SINK COMBO

Air flow? RPM? DBA? What are the two most important factors when it comes to a good not so noisy CPU Fan

-Matt

BTW= This FAN will be for the AMD Athlon XP 1800+

Hi Matt,

That Sanyo-Denki should definitely be quieter than what you've got. 8000 rpms?! Man! I used a Vantec CCK-6027D with a 5500 rpm fan and it was fairly loud (not unbearable though). A site you might check out that sells fans without the heat sinks is www.coolerguys.com . Just scroll down the menu on the left side of the screen and you'll get to the fans; 60mm, 80mm, etc. As for the most important factors in getting a fan, they are all really intertwined. The faster it spins, the more air flow you get (cfm) but also the more noise you get (dB). I guess basically the trick is figuring out how much air you want to be moved and try to get the lowest rpm fan that will do it. That in turn will help keep your noise down. The Vantec Stealth line of fans are supposed to be something like 70 or 80% quieter than normal fans, but I checked a 60mm at coolerguys and it said it only moved 17 cfm of air. Don't know if that'd be enough for an 1800+ or not. The Vantec that I mentioned I used above moves 30 cfm and is 39.5 dB. Maybe someone else can tell ya if there's a "bottom limit" on how much air a cpu fan has to move because I'm not real sure. HTH

There is another factor other than rpm that impacts air flow allot. That is the blade angle and amount of fins. Fan manufacturers are required to test and quantify it's rate of flow, although not every reseller supplies that info to you.

My vote for the
VOLANO 6Cu

I have it running on my AMD Athlon XP 1800+ and it's a CHAMP.
