Any difference between Maxtor D740X 7200RPM 40gb regular and quiet models?
Newegg sells the regular and "quiet" model for the exact same price. Is there any difference at all other than less noise between the two?

Someone else may know better, but the quiet models have Fluid Dynamic Bearing Motors

Isn't that just a noise-level thing though? I just want to be sure I'll be getting the same performance level with the quiet model and won't have to buy extra stuff for it.

As far as i can tell, the whole point to it is for lower noise and longer life. I am sure there are some here who have actually used these drives and will know more about them.

The fluid bearing drives are slightly slower, but you would have to benchmark it against one of the other drives to actually notice it.
