Digital camera connection troubles
my mother has just bought a digital camera, she knows basically how to do it and all that, but has trouble connecting it to her PC, she finds it a tad difficult, meaning every time she wants pictures off her camera she has to have me round to do it.
it connects as a removable drive (H and then she has to look in all the sub directories yada yada. So what i tried to do is add it as a digital camera so it is all recognized and the pictures are automatically opened, i know you can do it because i can do it with my sony DCP50, but i dont know what the driver is for her camera, or if it is even on her CD. She is running XP home, and it only wants to recognize a FUJIFILM camera as a MX700 or something, but then doesnt recognize her camera as it is a different model. It is a FUJIFILM FinePix 2600Zoom, I was wondering if any of you guys knew of the drivers for it so i could add it as a digital camera instead of a removable drive. Ta

hi spyda,
Win XP has a built in feature that pops up when u hook up any portable device.. in ur mom's case the cam acts as an external HD right ? so ur supposed to get a litle window that asks you what you want to do ? like: -upload to ur pc - burn to CD-R -View it using any photo viewer u may have ( use ACDSEE 4.0 )which allows me to view my pics as a photoalbum ( before i transfer and after i transfer) hope this helped..

SPYDA,
The FujiFilm FinePix 2600Z is the camera I have and if it is being recognised as a Removable drive then that means the drivers are installed properly. BUT.......... There is a program on the CD (that comes with the camera) called FINEPIX VIEWER. As soon as you plug the camera into the USB port and switch it on the FinePix Viewer program starts up and all the photographs which have been taken appear on the screen. From there you can manipulate the pictures in any way you like. You MUST install all the software on the CD to use the camera in the way it is intended. Whats happened is, you've plugged the camera in and Windows has installed the USB drivers for it automatically. I'd advise you to install the drivers from the CD also.

OK you've installed the files from the CD. Is the FinePix Viewer icon on the task bar?
Trawling through folders to find the photographs is no good. Make sure all the software is installed. It's been a while since I installed from the CD but I don't remember having any problems. Instead of getting your mum to trawl through folders why not just place a shortcut of the "100_FUJI" folder (where the photos are stored) onto your mums desktop. I've just done it on my XP desktop and it works a treat. Personally, I don't really understand your original point about installing drivers for the camera. Windows does not care what camera is connected. It is using the SmartMedia memory in your camera as a removable storage device (which is exactly what it is). Just a note to agree that using the Fine Pix viewer program is the way to go. Especially if you have someone who just wants to see the pictures when they plug in the camera.
