Case + AMD fan question
First, I have this case: http://www.coolerguys.com/Merchant2/...y_Code=CS-Wind
love the case, but it came with no documentation. I can't figure out how to use the drivebays with the included rails. My CDROM drive keeps falling. Secondly, it says there's room for 5 fans, but I can only find space for 3. Coolerguy's website says it Chemnig case, but I think it's actually an Antec case customized by Chieftec. Anybody have any experience with this case that could point out what I'm missing? Secondly, I have 3 80mm fans(with 2 more to install when I can find the room). I bought great fans that move a ton of air and are very quiet, however the CPU fan is a different story. I have an AMD athalon XP 1900 processor retail with the packaged heatsink/fan combo. The fan is super loud. Anybody have any experience on how to make the CPU fan quieter? I've got an ABIT KR7A-RAID motherboard with the heat sensor/fan control on it, but the CPU fan seems to run constantly. TIA. |

You might try what I did for the noise on my XP 1800. I removed the 60mm fan and replaced it with an Akasa 60 to 80 mm adaptor and a Vantec Stealth fan. Probably not quite enough air flow for a 1900, but you can find something that is quieter than the 60. The instructions included with the Akasa adaptor are not very good. The stock heat sink on my 1800 has two smooth sides and two sides that are the edges of the fins. The Akasa straight sides should go on the smooth sides of the heat sink, not the fin edges. The adaptor angle sides would then be over the edges of the fins. Got about 4 deg C less on the cpu this way. My cpu loaded with Sandra BurnIn is about 46 deg C with only 27 cfm from the Stealth. Loudest thing now is the psu.
