Buying Radeon 8500 a mistake?
I will be able to get a Radeon 8500 from building two office machines, see my other post for that. I am wondering though, would it be better to get a Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB? ATI says their new line of cards will be the basis for their new unified driver architecture, like nVidia's.
Is the new UDA for ATI only going to start with the Radeon 9700 or will the Radeon 9000/Pro be included in that? If it won't be, I'll be fine with the Radeon 8500. But if there will be driver updates for the Radeon 9000 Pro for years to come, I'd probably go with that, considering there will be no more driver updates for the Radeon 8500. Thanks

I think they decided against the unified driver architecture. They just released new 8500 drivers. They may still be ok w/driver support. The 8500 is a great card. Don't sweat it. I think it outperforms the 9000, but maybe not the pro. I don't remember.

Yeah, the 8500 performs better than the 9000, so I'd stick with it.
