Help. My mouse is continuously locking up on me. Keyboard still works but the mouse locks up. Has no pattern. Will work sometimes for hours before it locks up, then othertimes it will only work for a few seconds. I have to reboot each time it locks up.

I have a Dell Dimension 600 P3. Windows 98 platform. Mouse is on IRQ 12 and nothing else is on that IRQ with it. It is a Microsoft two button mouse with the scroll wheel in the middle.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Walt

Could be a buggy software, or a short in the mouse tail or wire.

Two possibilities here. I think I read in another post that Dell has updated Intellipoint software available to fix some issues. The other possibility is this - does this happen only when you are on line? The Aztech POS winmodem in these machines sucks CPU cycles and can cause machine freezes. I have personally experienced this one on a customer's machine.

Thanks for the replys. I do not use a dail up connection. I have a cable modem through a network card. I am pretty much logged on all of the time. Not sure if there is an issue here or not. I will check with Dell about their updated intellipoint software.

I had some buggy Intellipoint software, but it didn't lock up the mouse, just gave random BSOD's. But, when my 3 year old chewed through and slobbered into the mouse cord (luck not much current running through there!) it would lock up everything. The mouse wouldn't move, and CTRL/ALT/DEL wouldn't reset it.

Thats irrelevant. Not helpful at all and besides, this post is a year old. I suggest you review the forum guidelines.
