BIOS reports 32 MB instead of 64 MB for PC100
Hi friends,
I just wanted to know how to install PC100 RAM on 66 Mhz FSB M/B. When I install it, the 64 MB stick shows up as 32 MB. There are two DIMM slots. 1 st slot - 66 Mhz 32 MB RAM 2 nd slot - 100 Mhz 64 MB RAM ( shows up as 32 MB by BIOS). I changed the slots but no effect. Both are Hyundai RAM chips. Thanks a lot. Does it happen to be an older VX chipset board? They're fussy about the RAM and PC100 usually doesn't work.

Thanks. It is a VIA chipset. Not too sure on the exact chipset though.

Hi gautamzone,
Could be that particular motherboard doesn't like mixing memory types. Try the PC100 by itself and see what happens. Also, it could be the memory slots will only see 32MB maximum. What motherboard is that? Cricket

I believe the VX chipset is Intel.
If you have Via chipset, maybe a download of the current 4n1 drivers will correct the problem. Just a thought. Carl |

I never used any of the VIA's, so not sure if they have a problem with recognizing the PC100 like the VX (Intel), but I do suspect it's a similar problem.

Drivers have nothing to do with the BIOS recognizing ram size. The 64mb module is probably not fully compatible with that motherboard or it's defective. It's probably too high a density for that board.
