Laptop harddrive on desktop machine?

Hello there,

I have some data which I really need to retrieve of a broken laptop. As far as I know, the hard-drive and data thereon are fully intact, but as the laptop won’t switch on I can’t access it. I attempted to connect the drive to a slot in another laptop, but they did not appear to be compatible and I did not want risk damaging any pins.

Is there any way to connect a laptop hard-drive to a free IDE channel on a desktop machine (perhaps through the use of an adaptor of some kind). Otherwise, what is the best course of action in my situation.

Thanks in advance,

James.

Yup... Startech makes an adapter that will connect the IDE cable and a floppy power connector to your laptop drive.
