I just built a new system and when tweaking BIOS I set the FSB clock speed to the max allowed by BIOS(220). The system locked and would not complete POST. My diagnostic lights indicated a problem with the processor. I cleared BIOS via the MOBO jumper and the machine seems to function again. The FSB clock speed was set at 133 originally. My processor is AMD XP 2200+ this processor has a 266MHz FSB. I don't understand the problem I caused by increasing the FSB in BIOS it was still below the speed the processor is capable of. The system specs are listed below. I did notice in reviewing the MOBO specs it only lists AMD XP up to 2000+. If this is the problem what would be the max FSB speed in BIOS which should be stable?

Hi ssutton,
The FSB on the processor is 133MHz x 2 = 266MHz, so you need to set it to 133MHz in the BIOS. You set it to 220MHz x 2 = 440MHz which will definitely not work. |

the speed that you put it to was actally 440 fsb,,
with amd they use double pump tech so when it is set to 133 it is actally 266,,,,, |

Yes, Amd's FSB is DDR. DDR stands for double data rate. What basically happens is that the memory gets clocked twice per cycle enabling the double speed, i.e. 133mhz DDR ram runs at 266mhz and so on. HTH
