Question HELP HDD failure

Hi all, I have a 30 GB WD Caviar HDD that is only 2 years old. I built my own PC from "barebones" (thru TigerDirect)...never had a single problem 'till daughter was last one on and simply turned power off, instead of "shut-down" method! But she had done this before, nothing worse than either goin' into scandisk and/or starting up in safe mode (and a good reaming from ME ; )
WHEN I could get it (HDD) to boot at all, it would begin to post up, then it would say "...0\IFSHELP\...is corrupted or can not be found. I put in my Win ME boot disk, booted w/ CD drivers, re-installed ME to fix corrupted files...all was fine 'till the 1st reboot;
then the same system halt/corrupt files message displayed! I was trying to save some valuable content on this disk...but after days of frustration, I was just gonna format/partition/format and start all over...
NOW all of a sudden as soon as I connect a power cable to this HDD nothing will happen...like the PC isn't even plugged in!!! So I connected the drive as a slave to another (working fine) HDD master, tried to turn it on...nothing. I un-plug the power cable to this 'bad' HDD, turn power back on and the other master HDD & PC boot up just fine. I have dealt with some trashed HDD's in the past...MOST of which I was able to fix/restore...I have NEVER come across one that has behaved like this before! Can someone please help?! Sorry the post is SO long, but you said be as specific as pos. ~mousepotato~

Obviosly this hardrive has flown south for the winter. Since it is only two years old it should still be under warranty. Go to thier web site and try to get an RMA.

Download WD's diagnostic program from their website and run it. It will tell you right away if the drive is bad or not.
