60c is aufully hot
I just built a system with a Soltek SL75DRV5 motherboard and a 1600+ Athlon XP.
I have built several such systems, but this one refuses to drop the processor temp (in the bios below 38c system and 60c ABSII temp-processor temp) It read the 60c value not less than 5 seconds after post after entering the bios. I cant remember the other machines if they read that high, but Im using a aoc hsf that has always been a good cooler for my tbirds, and xps.And of course thermal grease.I was worried that maybe the fan.heatsink wasnt working properly so I tried another,no difference. Im wondering if this value is common on this board-seems like it climbed up in temp pretty quick and leveled off.maybe a quirk in the board?? BTW Im in the basment and it is around 70degree F here. tia |

I'm in love with the Volcano 7 and Volcano 9
I had a volcano 7 and it worked great...but I bought a Smart Fan 2 from thermaltake (it's the same fan that's on the Volcano 9)...and it brings me down about 2°C from what my Volcano 7 was. I'm not familiar with that HSF though...is it copper based? was is the fan size/speed? |

A 38'C system temp is rather high as well.... what's your case ventilation like?

Hi RobH,
I put a 1.4GHz T-Bird system together with a Soltek motherboard earlier this year and I got temps of 44C at idle with a Vantec copper heatsink. I didn't notice anything strange with the temp readings on that motherboard...but maybe the health monitoring chip is bad on the motherboard you're working with. Are you sure the heatsink is installed correctly (recessed portion of the heatsink over the raised part of the socket). Someone here said they noticed high temps with their AMD CPU and after checking found that the round cushions at the corners of the CPU wasn't allowing the heatsink to contact the CPU core fully. I think he said he just trimmed the rubbers down to allow the heatsink to make full contact with the core. Might be something to look at. And does that case have the appropriate amount of case fans installed (AMD recommends at least 1 intake and 1 exhaust). Cricket

LOL, yesterday I did maintenance to a Duron 750 and it's running at 78ºC. It has been running at that temp for a year!

The case is well ventilated and has 2 fans plus the PWS. I tried 3 different types of Heatsink/fan combos. the lowest I managed to get her down to is 58c and I thought that to be high.
I have been recently building p4s and they dont generate near the heat,so the numbers scared me enough to question it.This build went to a small business, and I think this is the last AMD ill use for an extreme duty (what I would call this application)situation. BTW I also tried a different processor--no real difference.I knocked it down to 200mhz and it ran 10c cooler (btw I doubled check the numbers on the processor-thanks! |
