Ethernet port on Compaq portable
Hey everyone!
My roommate is having a problem with his Presario 1700 notebook. We have a big high speed network set up all around the house with two ethernet jacks in each room, but for some reason, when he connects the line to the ethernet port in the back of his notebook, it will not function. However, he has a Linksys dongle that is ethernet to PC card, and when hooked up through that, functions very well. I've fiddled around a bit with some network settings and such, but I cannot find anything that will work. I've looked at compaq's support website to no avail. Anyone have any ideas? I just don't get it. Nick |

Sounds kinda dumb...but...you're sure it's an ethernet port, not a modem?
