Question USB problems!

I have an EPOX 8KHA (not the + version) and it appears as though my onboard USB ports are malfunctioning.

It started when I recieved the board (it was new, by the way) and it seems like when I put in my sidewinder steering wheel the OS would not or should I say could not detect the device. I would show up in the device manager as an "unknown device".

I also tried my Microsoft USB optical mouse, but it would work in any of the USB ports. But the mouse works fine in the PS/2 port with the USB to PS/2 adapter.

Also, I just recently picked up a colour printer that requires the USB hook up. I installed it, Device Manager detects it. but it doesn't respond to any commands.

I'm also using Windows XP, and have all of the updated drivers.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Would a USB PCI card work instead if I bought one?

Hi jalbes,

First, download and install the latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers, they have some needed USB files.

You might also want to play with the "Assign IRQ to USB devices" in the BIOS....I have this board also, and it's given me nothing but problems with USB.

The early 8KHA boards (the none +) had bios concerns.

I disabled assigning IRQ to USB but it caused my mouse to not work. Any other ideas?

I'm gonna flash my bios tonight to the latest version and see if that works.

I have the same board. I never experienced any USB issues like yours though. I upgraded from Win98SE to WinXP and flashed my bios and have not experienced any of your issues and I have a USB printer, MS Gamevoice, MS Keyboard, Digital Camera USB interface, USB Logitech Optical Mouse, and an Intel USB WebCam.

Perhaps the Bios Flash will do the trick (as well as the latest drivers as DrZ mentioned)

Good Luck,

I give up

I've had nothing but headaches with this Mobo! I'm selling it and I'm getting the ASUS A7V266-E.

I flashed the BIOS and upgraded to SP1, and it still doesn't respond.

Anyone wanna buy an EPOX 8KHA? $70.00 Canadian. I have the original manuals, CD and packaging.

e-mail me at jalbes@yahoo.com if you're interested.

Don't give up yet. If you go to the control panel
and the gameport, what do you see? Did you install
it using the install disk or did you let windows
install it?
Does the printer and the sidewinder have its own
electric brick or are you trying to power them from the port?

It may need some other kind of update aside from the VIA 4 in 1 drivers. My motherboard did, and before I installed it, it was doing pretty much the same thing as yours is. It was not real easy to find but if you do a search on google putting in your motherboard model and USB fix/update you may find something. May have to do some reading, but if that is in fact what the problem is you will probably only have to download a small file (less then 1MB I bet) and thats it.

Exclamation UPDATE...

I updated all the drivers, configured every setting possible, and updated my BIOS (which caused random reboots).

My final diagnosis is that the Mobo is pooched. So I sold it on E-Bay (stating the problems I had), and purchased the ASUS A7V266-E.

Got everything altogether, and USB works now!
Thank God. Someones signature on here once said "If it ain't broke, then your not pushing it hard enough!" I'd like to think thats what the problem was.

Thx for all the help!

Cool

What OS are you running. USB on my wife's PC running WIN98 FE is a hit or miss thing. Requires a lot of reboots when trying to use USB. On the other hand USB on my PC with XP (Epox 8kha+) works great.

Looks like this issue was solved about 10 months ago, Looney.
