I have an older mobo (asus vl 97) that I do some experiments with different hardware peripherals.
I recently got a HP dat 24 drive to do some backups with, this drive is SCSI. My hardrive is IDE. My question is this, is there a way to have the system boot up using the IDE hardrive and still be able to use SCSI peripherals? The system boots and the SCSI bios says its loaded but W2k does not see the dat drive. Thanks

I'm not familiar with that board or I have forgotten the number. But yes you can use both IDE and SCSI drives in the same computer. Some mobo's won't let you use the onboard SCSI if you are booting from IDE. If that is the case you'll have to use an add in SCSI card. I'll look on the Asus site and see if they still have anything on that board. Their site seems to be getting harder and harder to find stuff on. At least in English and I don't read Chineese(?).

Is this a slot one mobo like the P2L97? I am not having any luck downloading the manuals for any of the P2 that have SCSI. It doesn't say they been removed but they are not available right now. I did notice a socket 7 mobo HX97 I think it was. I didn't see anything else over there that sounds like your board.

make sure you have the correct scsi drivers...
also, you "might" need to update the motherboard bios... I had a simliar situation happen to me with an Asus board.. NO SCSI until a bios update (the board was only 2 moths old). Good luck

What SCSI adapter card are you using? I boot from IDE and my SCSI tape drive and CD drive work perfectly off an Adaptec 2920 in Win2K. 2K saw the card as a "Future Domain" and installed the drivers.

I also boot from an IDE drive and have a SCSI HP tape drive (along with another hdd) connected to an adaptec card and the tape drive is seen in win98_SE, win2k, winXP.
