Fatal Exception Error(s)

I have just recently installed a WebStar cable modem and everything went well. I am now connected via high speed. However, occasionally I get a BSOD that says something like
Fatal Exception OE at 0028:C15CC32B VxD VIP(01)
and it may also include 0028:C001C044 VxD NDIS(01).

I am sure that these errors are being caused by something to do with the network adaptor, but cannot nail it down. These errors never ocurred before the installation of the modem on the USB port.

Has anyone had similar problems and if so, what was the solution.

Use an Ethernet modem.

Well it appears to be fixed now.
Their is a problem with ZoneAlarm if you install it and then remove it again and then reinstall it (as I did). It seems that if you remove ZoneAlarm, it leaves traces of the program lying around (as most software does) but then will cause Exception Errors. I competely removed every trace of ZoneAlarm from my system and then reinstalled ZoneAlarm and it has been OK since.

For those of you who are wondering why I uninstalled it in the first place, it was because my cable connection was slow and I thought that maybe ZoneAlarm was causing it. However my MTU was set for 576 and after I changed it to 1500 my connection was flying. So I then reinstalled ZoneAlarm and that was when the excrement hit the rotary ventillator.

Anyway, all seems well now.

GLC: by the way, the WebStar is both USB and Ethernet. I have no slots available in my system so decided to try the USB option.
I have downloaded a 3.6 meg file in 14 sec.

I'm not saying that USB is slow - I'm saying that it can cause problems exactly as you describe. I've never had really good luck with any type of USB networking.

Well it is almost 24 hours of continuous running without even a hint of a blip. I would say that the problem is solved and that the uninstall of ZoneAlarm was the problem.

GLC: I was not trying to say that you were inferring that USB is slow. I was simply explaining the reason why I did not go the Ethernet route and was happy with the speed on the USB port. I apologize if my message was unclear. Had I an available PCI or even an ISA slot, I probably would have used an Ethernet card.

Anyway, so far so good.

Here is a follow up on the problem I had.

My system has been up and running for a couple of days now without a single problem. If anyone is encountering the same type of problem that I discribed above, then take a look at this link.

It worked for me.
