I just got my first build up and running (yeah!!!!) I've configured all the bios settings and formatted the harddrive and everything else except install my Operating System (XP). This is where I run into a problem. I can't install the OS w/o a working cd-rom, and I can't install the drivers for my cd-rw w/o an OS. Is there some thing you can add to the config.sys and/or autoexec.bat files in order to boot w/ cd-rom support? This seems a little like a catch 22.

What motherboard are you using? If it is a new build, its a new board right? Pretty much all mobos for the past 4-5 yrs are CD bootable, you dont need any drivers - go into your BIOS and set it to boot from CD; and then powerup with your XP CD in the drive.
If you cant get it to work, you need to download the XP boot disks (I think its 5-6 floppies) from the MS website and boot from floppy. You cannot boot to DOS to install XP. |

I'll try that over the weekend and see if it works; I think it should. I thought I had tried everything but I didn't think of that. Just one thing...how do you set it to boot from cd in bios? If you need to know I have an epox 8kha+ mobo rev. 2.0 w/ award bios. I'm sure it is some simple setting but I just want to save the time it would take me to find it.

Its a great board .. well I had the 8KHA and it was rock solid.
To get the CD to boot up first - Go to BIOS > Advanced Bios Features > Make your first boot device the CDROM |

ok
ok. I did not realize you coud use a drive as a boot device w/o the drivers due to the fact that you can change to a drive w/o drivers in DOS. But now I should be able to get this thing up and running.
