Faster CD burners????

Hi I just have a question about cd R/RW s. how long should it take to burn a music CD (CD to CD) I have a HP Burner about 2 years old and it takes about 30minutes to make a copy of a music disK. (if I dont run the test that is. Double that time if I run the test)I dont know much about CD burners but I read in one of the other posts here that it takes about 2 minutes to burn copy a CD to CD (music CD that is) Have CD burners really improved that much in those 2 years. If so I would seriously consider replacing my old one with a new one. The software that I use is CD creator thought I would just mention that in case it makes any difference.
I was looking at Lite-on as a replacement burner, does anyone know anything about this brand, if so is it any good. What should I look for when selecting a new one.

Thanks for any replies in advance.

I used Plextor Burners up to the 16x units and then I switched to Lite-Ons and have used them ever since. I now have a 48 and a 40 at home and have used 30 of them in the last two years in builds for other people. All have work flawlessly.
I really suggest that when you get 50 to 60 bucks to spare, buy a 40x lite on.

I have a LiteOn 32X12X40 that will burn copy of a CD in 2-3 mins. and a LiteOn 48X12X48 that will do it in just under 2 mins.
Treat yorself to an upgrade of the LiteON 40X or 48X

The 2 fastest drives available are the Lite-On 48x and the TDK 48x Velo CD. Both benchmark @ 2.32min burning a 650mb cd. There isnt a cd-rw capeable of burning a disk in under 2 minutes using CAV. The math doesnt work.

What speed does your CD-RW burn at anyway? 4x?

Yes, CD burners have come a long way in 2 years. Besides the faster speeds, one big improvement is Burn Proof (or similar technology) that helps to prevent making "coasters" (or bad CD-R's) by being able to pause the burn if the buffer runs dry and allows the buffer to fill back up with data, then continue the burn.

I've been using Plextor CD-RW's, but recently switched to Lite-On too. Very good drives and half the price. I still have old 12x media, but they burn at 24x with Nero and a Lite-On 40x CD-RW...3 minutes for a full 650MB CD-R.

Another, more recent, improvement is Mt. Rainier. You can use a CD-RW like a hard drive, or floppy, or zip. Just start to format a blank CD-RW. After about 40 seconds you can write to it like to a hard drive, floppy, zip, whatever.
Improvements in comparison to packet writing: Only initial formatting required (about 40s), then formatting will take place in the background. You can use the CD-RW, though, and eject it whenever you want. Formatting will be paused and continued the next time you use the CD.
Mt. Rainier uses 2K clusters instead of 64K clusters -> not much wasted space
Mt. Rainier includes a defect management in the drive itself, which excludes the defect sectors on a CD-RW, so you can still use the intact ones.

Mt. Rainier (www.mt-rainier.org) can be found in most newer burners. LiteOn includes Mt. Rainier in the 40x12x48 and 48x12x48.

Anti-buffer-underrun-technology (BURN-Proof etc.) and Mt. Rainier shouldn't be missing in a new burner. BURN-Proof has been around for quite some time and can now be found in every cd burner. Mt. Rainier is newer and isn't included in all, but in most newer CD burners. Both technologies can't be added, so make sure the burner you buy already includes it.
