Best CD-ROM..?
I'm using Asus 52x right now, but not happy with it.
It takes several seconds for autorun to start(when installing/playing games). I was much more happy with my older 40x samsung drive. Anybody could recommend me one..? Also, is it worth getting DVD/CDROM combo..? Thank you. |

Hi,
a CD-ROM-drive isn't recommendable anymore. There are barely cheaper, sometimes more expensive, than DVD-ROM drives. Only a few manufacturers produce CD-ROM-drives so you have a better choice with DVD-ROM-drives. Therefore, get a DVD-ROM-drive. A very good and cheap one, about US-$40, is the LiteOn 1648. 16x DVD-ROM, 48x CD-ROM. RJ

I've always used ASUS without any issues, but if it's not working for you, try a Sony.

I've got a Toshiba 16x DVD. Very quiet. Quick to start and release disks.

My favorite DVD is the Pioneer slotload. Plextor doesn't make IDE cd or dvd drives, just burners. All their cd drives are SCSI.

I use LG drives but never had any problems with Sony 52x cdroms.
