errant pixels

hi this might be q stupid question but last night i noticed an errant pixel in the screen of my portable (a blue pixel on a black background on my ibm thinkpad600e althoug i doubt the color of the pixel or the type of pc makes mutch difference)

the question i have is: are errant pixels a constant, like an error in the production, or are they a sign of wear and tear.
and if they are formed what causes it, is it just te passing of time or are there things that increase (or maybee decrease) the chance o errant pixels????

Hi,

unless you smash the TFT with a hammer or similar there won't be defective pixels except the ones caused by production. They are not wear-and-tear-results.

During the production some pixels get broken and the panel has to be sorted out (one reason why TFTs are so expensive).
Because only very very very few panels are without defective pixels at all there are tolerances, can be up to 8 defective subpixels.
Every TFT (mine included) I know has one defective subpixel (but not more). Subpixel means that only the red, green or blue pixel is defective, not the whole pixel, so some colors are still possible to display, some not.

Don't worry about the one defective subpixel, it is an error in the production, not wear and tear (my TFT is 2,5 years old, and still has only the one subpixel that has been defective since the beginning).

Yeah. You hardly notice that pixel unless you know that it's there. Therefore if you want to buy a TFT it is recommendable to look carefully for them. They can be overlooked easily (also because some colors can still be displayed), but once you noticed them, you will always see them.
