Assuming I read this right, you have both HDD's in one PC. If yes, then did you confirm they are recognized in BIOS?

Hi wickedstyle,

Is the IDE cable connected properly (red stripe to pin 1 on motherboard and hard drive) and is the hard drive jumper set properly? Check the DELL hard drive to see if the jumper is set to master or to CS. If the DELL hard drive jumper is set to master, set the jumper on the hard drive from the HP to slave. If the DELL hard drive jumper is set to CS, set the jumper on the HP hard drive to CS too.

Be sure to go into BIOS to see that the new hard drive is recognized properly. If not, use the AUTO DETECT feature to detect the new hard drive.

Check the jumpers on the hard drives. Dell uses Cable Select. Set all 4 of your IDE devices in the bios to AUTO.

Did you double check that pin 1 on the connector is on pin 1 on the hd?

Hi wickedstyle,

I would replace the IDE cable just to see if that's the problem.
