hi! I have a HP Brio PC with a 48x creative Cd rom, for which I'm currently using Samsung drivers cause I have lost the floppy containing the original drivers. well, since the past few months, the cd rom has been working fine and has shown no errors. but since a week, it has been occasionally showing no response in clicking edject or browsing it in windows mode or in the dos mode.
Today, all of a sudded, it went blank and although it's edjecting and closing back in...but it's not reading the cd rom, ad on trying to browse the cd, it shows that "the drive is not accessible. the Device is not ready". I've tried re-installing the samsing drivers, but all in vain. I guess, that maybe this has something to do with some error in installing the drivers, cause I don't know how to install them. I just restarted the computer in dos mode and ran the file cdsetup.exe from the floppy drive. Also, I don't know what the hell is MSCDEX.exe, which was a file in the flopy disk and I didn't know how to run it as well. Please tell me how to get my cd rom drive back in perfect shape. thanking you, Mohit.

If you are running 98 and above you do not need CD-Rom drivers as they are part of the operating system. The disk that comes with a CD-Rom drive are for DOS, Win 3.1, and the early editions of Windows 95.
Goto the Control Panel>System>Device Manager and delete the CD-Rom Drive then restart the computer and Windows should re-load it. |

What OS are you trying to install? You really dont need MSCDEX if you are tryng to use Win98 and higher.

If that doesn't work, then try a lens cleaning CD that you can get from any PC or Hi-Fi shop.
Try replacing the IDE cable. Try it in another PC. If the drive still won't work, then it's time to replace it. HTH |
