Looks good to me. My first guess is that the Corsair memory should do just fine on that board: but to be sure, most manufacturers have info like that on the webpage for that board on their website. Read your manuals carefully & enjoy the build!
Do you already have a Cd-RW drive? (nice for backups, music, photos, videos etc) . . . Gary |

hey thanks for the input.
ya ive already got a cd r and zip in my other computer so didnt really see the need for them in my new build since it will be mostly a gameing machine. My question with the ram is the 64x64 number they give not really sure what it means.soyo has the corsair memory listed so im sure it should work.just didnt know about the 64x64 number |

Tell you the truth, I'm not sure about the 64x64. When Crucial lists 64x64 for DDR 2700 modules compatible with your Soyo board, they are all 512mb modules, and their 256mb modules list as 32x64. But when I looked in on PriceWatch, I did notice some 256mb modules listed as 64x64. Memory has become an intriguing buy these days! Quite a few variations floating around. The PriceWatch sites seem to claim that the 64x64 was still "industry standard" (they listed several Samsung modules, for example) and not the special NEC-type "High Density" modules that can only be used on certain motherboards (though I believe they would do OK on yours).
Corsair is a top-tier brand - and the XMS modules carry a price premium because they've been tested at higher speeds. Here's their chart: http://www.corsairmicro.com/main/products.htm Notice that on the Corsair chart all the 64x64 modules are 512mb, and all the 32x64 modules are 256mb. Here's their product specs for the 256mb modules (in Adobe Acrobat format): http://www.corsairmicro.com/main/pro...56a-3000c2.pdf And here's the 512mb module: http://www.corsairmicro.com/main/pro...512-3000C2.pdf Truthfully, I can't make heads or tails from the NewEgg part. You could call NewEgg to see if it's a typo, or Corsair. Or browse Corsairs FAQS pages. But I don't see anything that matches the specs you posted for sale at NewEgg on the Corsair site. Curious. . . . Gary [p.s. - can I guess that you're planning on overclocking? (since that is why the Corsair memory is priced higher) - If you're not overclocking, you could go with the Crucial 256mb DDR2700 for $88. If you are overclocking, stick with the Corsair, but you'll probably want to get something like an AX-7 heatsink with a Panaflo fan on top, rather than the retail hs/fan combo - in fact you could purchase an OEM version of the cpu, and use the money you save to partly offset the more expensive hs/fan] Last edited by GaryRouth; 10-26-2002 at 08:54 PM. |
