Took the plunge and got a Logitech optical mouse. It seemed to track jittery at times.
The instructions said it wouldn't work on reflective surfaces.
Guess even the shine from my wooden desk was enough to throw it off.
A blank sheet of white print paper for a mousepad smoothed out the tracking.
So far so good.

Yeah. Wood with finish on it reflects the lasers from the mouse pretty easily. Shiny plastic mouse pads have the same effect. I just taped a piece of paper on my deks and it works great. Plus I always have a piece of paper to take notes on.
