Leave it open? Case? What's that?
Leaving one side off means that you can see when it requires cleaning better, and no need to find a screwdriver.
Mine has been missing for over 2 years.
More dust, requiring more cleaning, but cooler system overall.
Drape a piece of fine gauze or lace over it and put a plant on top, your S/O will love you for it :P
Two cats and two smokers in the house doesn't help

Hi jon611,

The case serves several purposes, the main one being somewhere to install all the parts. Another would be to contain the EMF (Electro Magnetic Frequencies or radio waves) as these can affect other electronic devices. It's also there to help protect the parts from the environment (dust, cats, babies, etc...). And finally a properly designed case (with the sides on) will help the PC actually stay cooler because the air flow through the case is better controlled.

Why are you asking?

Unless your case is housed in a special computer place and not out where anything can get to it... I'd do it. Otherwise, I wouldn't risk my computer for a few degrees of cooling if that's what your after. You never know when something odd could happen.

"Hey, how's it going? I brought you a drink of wate......oops, sorry. Those cups are pretty slippery. What's that fizzling noise?"

I just leave all the screws out of my side panels, so I can easily slide it on and off. I'm inside of it at least 3 times a week.

No, I don't have one of those screwless cases. Just a cheap, generic $30 case. I saved a few bucks by doing that.

By the way, keeping the case closed also helps cut down on the noise from cooling fans and HDD's.
