Angry HD problems again

i posted about my spare HD that i got from work awhile back and couldnt resolve the issue. i just took it out an ran only 1 HD in my pc instead of 2. well i was getting bored so i decided to try again. i put the HD in as primary slave and set the 2 HD's to cable select. I then booted up the pc. Again i get the same error stating that the primary slave failed. i went into the BIOS to see if it could see it but it cant. i rebooted and this time it gave me the same error but it saw the HD. i hit F1 and booted into win xp. I started up PM 8 and it said the HD was bad and i need to backup the data on it and erase all partitions on it then format it. I went and did that using the win xp cd and erasing it that way. after rebooting again, i still get the same errors and the BIOS this time can't see the HD. I boot anyways and when win xp comes up, i try and access the HD and it seemed to work. I then went into the hardware tab in my computer and went to the ide settings. it said the HD is in pio mode only. i cant seem to get it into dma mode after trying 5 times. i'm guessing that the HD is bad and its no good. i guess thats why my work was letting me have it with no hassle. the HD is a WD 30gig 5400 rpm. Any ideas on what could be wrong? am i missing anything? if not, then what should i do with this HD? thanks

Are you using 80 conductor cable? If not then you want to actually jumper them as Master/Slave, and even if you are using 80 conductor cable It can't hurt to try master/slave jumper configuration!!

i also tried that and it didnt work. I forgot to mention that i had the HD in a compaq 400mhz pentium 2 and it worked with dma 2. maybe its just my setup. i think my mobo had problems with the primary ide when 2 HD's are hooked up to it. with the way my pc is set up, i cant have the HD on the secondary ide. my mobo is an asus tusl2-c. thanks.

Do you have the primary master and slave set to 'auto' in your BIOS??

allright. the HD is not the problem. i think its the Mobo. i can put the HD on the Secondary IDE and it works but not on the primary IDE. could it be that i got a bad MoBo? the MoBo is a ASUS TUSL2-C. i had a ABIT ST6 without raid but I had Problems with that one too. Maybe its me. lol. anyways, has anyone else had any problems with either MoBo? maybe its something else that i am missing?

i tried the HD in 3 other PC's and it works fine. no errors at all. i am guessing it has to do with something with the MoBo. Or it could be the PSU since it is a cheap no name brand at 250w. the reason i say that is that i get wrong readings from the voltages. i set the BIOS voltage for the core at 1.75. but when i read the voltages, it says that it is at 1.81. also it reads my CPU at 1011mhz. when its suppose to be at 1000mhz. i am not overclocking it. maybe its the memory. i have pc133mhz 256mb chips in 2 slots. the MoBo is rated up to 133 but the CPU is only rated at 100mhz and thats what I have it set at in the BIOS. i hope i dont got a bad MoBo but so far no problems and i have had this mobo for a year now.
