question about computer speakers
I need some computer speakers for my old computer. I want something nice but not expensive because it has a dvd drive and alot of mp3's on there. it's only a 400mghz intell pentium II. 16gb hdd. iomega cdrw, 128mb ram. not sure what kind of sound card though. nothing high end i know that. I was thinking about getting Logitech Z-340 3 Piece Speaker System from newegg or wherever i find a better price. but then i thought maybe i should spend about $40 more and spring for the 5.1 speakers. my question is though is it worth it to get 5.1 speakers for this type of computer? Ive never had 5.1 speakers and im looking for some budget ones. just want to make sure that even though my sound card isn't high end, 5.1 speakers would be worth the try. i should also say that i would only be using these speakers in my bedroom where the computer is, so of course i don't need amazing sound from 40ft away or anything. and last thing (damn this post got long) how do 5.1 speaker systems work? Are there wires gonna be going all around my room hooking each speaker up to each other? I really don't want wires all over the ground. don't they make these things cordless? and i should say that the speakers will be used for dvd's and music. i would probably use it alot. any advice be appreciated. thanks.

Since nobody has responded - I'll give it a shot.
I don't think you can get the benefit of 5.1's without a 5.1 sound card. Yes, wires will be going all over the place because you have 4 satellites, 2 in front and 2 in the rear. I'd get the Z-340's and they will probably sound just fine. |

Didn't even see this post -- but I'll agree with glc -- the Logitech Z-340's seem fine for what you want. 5.1 speakers will need 5.1 supported output -- something I doubt your soundcard has.
