Hi All:
What is the best heatsink and fan for a AMD Athlon 1.2Gz (266MHz FSB) Socket A CPU? Single, Dual, ballbearing, CMF, Noise, Etc, Etc. And where to purchase, and what price range. Thanks ahead of time, Bill Lane |

Thats like asking what is the best car. I have a XP1600 with a Alpha Pal 8045 heatsink and 80mm whisper fan that keeps it in the very low 40'sC.
Caution: Alpha Pal wil only fit certain boards. It bolts to board and therefore is very easy to install as compared to the more traditional heatsinks with snap clips. Chas

Thermalrights line of cpu heatsinks are good, may want to look that way.
Avoid delta 38 fans as they're the noisy ones. |

Hi All:
I don't think I want to go the Alpha Pal 8045 heat sink, even though my motherboard accepts it, that's just a little more work than I want to get into. I looked at Thermalright units, and they seem pretty large. I'm looking at the Coolermaster HHC-001 Heat Pipe Cooler For Socket A at the Cooler Guys, but I can't see anything about the hookup wires, I want to be able to see the fan speed in Winbond Hardware Doctor, the Coolermaster HHC-001 just says 12 volt DC. I see some fans have two sets of wires, one for the large 4 prong power plug, and a small 3 prong that plugs into the motherboard, and the Coolermaster HHC-001 don't show the wires, but since it says 12 volts I would guess it means that it just has the large power plug, How will I be able to see fan speed? Do you think this Coolermaster HHC-001 will be okay for my Abit KG7RAID Socket A Motherboard? I'm not going to be doing overclocking, just want to keep it simple. Thank Confused, Alfie, and Cricket, Bill Lane |

If you are not going to be overclocking and want to keep it simple, just buy the retail CPU, it comes with a serviceable Coolermaster HSF. Fringe bennie is a 3 year warranty on the CPU.

Hi glc & Cricket:
A friend is upgrading, and sending me his old AMD Athlon 1.2Gz (266MHz FSB) Socket A CPU, so I bought the Abit mobo, and one 256DDR2100-N)32x64 256MB (DDR) RAM, so now the only thing I need is the fan. I'll go look at the Coolermaster HSF, and the RPM adapter at 2CoolTek. Thanks again, Bill Lane |

I was going to say, I like Thermaltake HSF's, but it looks like you already ordered. Good luck!
