Hello everyone
I have a US Robotics 33.6 Fax/Modem external that I am trying to install on my sister's computer. I noticed what seems to be a PC serial port on the modem. I do not have anything else but the modem itself. What other hardware do I need to make this modem work? Also I do not see the drivers in Windows98. Thanks gang! Dave |

Oh I forgot. She has a 486 computer. Hopefully it can work with her PC.
I also believe I need to set the comport in BIOS to external. |

1. You need a serial modem cable to connect the modem to the serial port.
2. You need the AC power pack for the modem. 3. If the com ports show up in device manager, they are already enabled. The mouse is most likely already on COM 1 so you need to look for COM 2. If it's there, go into its settings and set it to 115200, 8, none, 1, hardware. See #4 below. If the second port is not enabled, it could either be in BIOS or a jumper on the motherboard (onboard ports), or a jumper on the controller card (ports on a card). 4. If the serial port does not have a "16550 UART", the fastest modem that will work reliably on that com port is 9600 baud. 5. Shut the computer down, hook the modem up, and turn it on. restart the computer and go into control panel, modems. Run the add new modem wizard. If it ID's as a standard modem, get the model number off the modem and go to http://www.usr.com and get the driver. |
