PNY Single Card Reader

My son was installing the PNY Card Reader which specifies that the drivers must be installed in Windows 98 prior to connecting the card reader to the USB port. That instruction was not followed. I have tried to uninstall, reboot, install, and connect again, but cannot get the reader to install correctly. Any ideas on recouping the error of our ways?

Do you have Win98se (second edition) or Win98fe (first edition)? The first edition does not have full USB support (thus one of the reasons for 98se) and that could be your problem.
