pci input controller

New to board - appreciate in advance any help!

Have a "pci input controller" problem with system I am working on.
At start up Windows detects a "pci input controller" and new
hardware wizard searches for the drivers to install same, not
finding them either in the "C:\Windows\System" folder or on the
Windows 98SE disc. It susequently reflects the yellow question
mark by the "pci input controller" entry in the Device Manager
hardware listing, with a yellow exclamation point super-imposed
over the yellow question mark.

Have been unsuccessful in attempting to get two different pci
56k modem cards to work in this system - ports do not open,
eventhough windows shows modems working properly in all other
respects. That is, when I click the "more info" button on the
'Diagnosis' tab on the modem properties dialog window, an error
msg is reflected back indicating 'Unable to open port" with no
reflected in the window as expected from the 'more info' query.

Have been unsuccessful attempting to locate drivers for this
"pci input controller" device from the mobo mfr site & am at
wits end as to where else I might obtain them from.

Asus p5a rev 1.04 motherboard specs:

mobo mfr: ASUSTek Computer INC. p5a rev 1.04
bus clock: 100MHz
bios: Award Software, Inc. 4.51G 05/02/02
proc: 450 MHz AMD k6-2 w/3DNow!
chipset: AliM1541/1543C

Note: downloaded & installed the "Ali BusMaster pci to ide
controller from the board mfr's site; hower, didn't see any-
thing which referenced "pci input controller". Also updated
the bios to no avail!

Again, any help much appreciated!

Hi perry, welcome to the PC Mech forums!

Here is a link to the official ALi chipset IDE drivers that you need, it works with all versions of Windows. You can also find all of the official Asus drivers here. The driver you need is the "ALi M1541 IDE BusMaster". Hope that helps.
