WDM or VXD?

What is the difference between vxd sound drivers and wdm sound drivers? How do I know which one I am using? Is there an advantage to wdm over vxd?

I have a SB live 5.1, P4 2.4, Intel 845PE chipset, win98SE

I noticed the WDM folder in my soundblaster directory and was wondering if I needed to install something extra. Everything is working OK just curious.

Thanks

If you are using Win98se, I'd stay with the VXD drivers -- they are much faster and more robust than the newer WDM drivers.

If you upgrade to Win2000 or WinXP you're stuck with WDM drivers -- it's M$'s new directsound structure.
