Angry Fire problem with inspire 5.1s

Yes, I know there have been quite a few threads on this, but I have been having a problem with my speakers: the center speaker is not being utilized. When I run the tests, all the other speakers are working fine except this one, nothing comes out of it. I checked the connections, but there is just nothing coming out of the speaker; I have the speaker volume up, but still nothing. I have a SB Audigy. Anyone have any ideas/advice?

The Center shouldnt be utilized but for talking and say whatnot.

Although with you software that you might have with your sound card you should be able to say change it to stero and have center channel used as the left and righ front channels are.

Yes, I am aware of that, but when I test the speakers on the 5.1 setting, each speaker plays the midi except the center. And when they are being tested all of them should emit sound. The image of the speaker lights up on the screen when the sound is emitted; the center speaker lights up, but no sound. I tried switching the speakers but nothing comes out of the center channel.

I got this from Creative:

Matthew,

Sound strange why the playback would work with 2 speaker chosen and not 4 speaker or 5.1. Try cleansweeping the drivers and software to see if that is what might be causing the issue.

First call Customer Service at 1-800-998-1000 and have them send you a unified Live WinXP install cd. This will allow you to install totally compatible XP drivers without having to install non-xp drivers/software.

Once you have this cd, perform the following.

================================================================================

Try cleansweeping the drivers for the card and then reinstalling them.

1. First go to Safe Mode. If you already know how to get there, skip to step 2. Restart the computer and begin tapping the F8 key at the top of the keyboard. Right after seeing VERIFYING DMI POOL DATA, you will see a Microsoft Startup Menu. Choose Safe Mode and push ENTER.

2. Double click MY COMPUTER. Click TOOLS --> Folder Options. Then click on the view tab. In here, find the option for SHOW ALL HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS. Make sure it is selected. Push ok and close out of everything until you are back at the desktop.

3. Put your Unified Installation cd in your cdrom drive. Go to Start --> Search. Choose ALL FILES AND FOLDERS. For the LOOK IN to Search box, click the down arrow and your cdrom drive.
In the ALL OR PART OF FILENAME box, search for CTZAPXX. Once the files are found double click on the Application icon (the icon of a triangle). Choose DRIVER UNINSTALLATION. When it is completed and asking to restart, choose CANCEL.

4. Go to Start --> Settings --> Control Panel and double click on ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. Find Soundblaster Audigy and choose to REMOVE it. Click on the SELECT ALL button and then NEXT. Press the YES or OK button to any questions asked. If you get error messages about needing to restart, push OK and go on. Choose NO when it asks to restart and click FINISH.

5. Go to Start --> Control Panel. Double click on SYSTEM. Select the HARDWARE tab and click the DEVICE MANAGER button. Push the plus (+) next to SOUND, VIDEO & GAME CONTROLLERS. Remove all listings that have CREATIVE in it. Close the Device Manager.

6. Go back to Start --> Search --> ALL FILES AND FOLDERS. This time, for the LOOK IN to Search box, click the down arrow and choose BROWSE located at the very bottom of the listing. Click the plus (+) next to MY COMPUTER, click the plus (+) next to LOCAL DISK (C:\), then click the plus (+) next to WINDOWS. Find the folder labeled INF and double click it. Push OK. Now the LOOK IN box should say \INF. The ALL OR PART OF FILENAME box should still be blank.
<< READ THIS BEFORE PERFORMING IT >> In the A WORD OR PHRASE IN THE FILE box (second box from the top), type EMU10K1 and click SEARCH. Delete all files except DRVINDEX and LAYOUT.

7. Take any cds out of all cdrom drives and restart the computer. It will come up with a NEW HARDWARE FOUND WIZARD that will have a listing for a PCI MULTIMEDIA DEVICE. Click cancel to any boxes that come up.

8. Repeat Step 3, this time choosing to INSTALL WDM DRIVERS.

9. Restart the computer at the end of it. Upon reboot, drivers should now be correctly install and sound should be working. If this is true, put the installation cd back in and let it install all of the software. If you do not have sound, but sound appears to be playing and the Device Manager has no yellow (!) listings, write us back for further instructions.

================================================================================

How did you fix it, just following the steps above? I just want to know because I'm having similar problems.

It actually wasn't the drivers, it was much simpler. I had the connections hooked up wrong to the card. I had the orange cable in the wrong connector (i think it was incorrect in the manual, unless I'm just an idiot and screwed it up). Anyway its all good now. PM if that wasn't detailed enough.
