Really weird soundcard problem.

My Hercules Fortissimo III 7.1 soundcard came today. I took out my soundblaster live 5.1 and replaced it with the new card. I boot to windows, install the drivers, and test it out. After playing 1 second of a sound file it locked up. I checked the IRQs and my NIC and the soundcard shared IRQ 10. So I moved my NIC and then the soundcard got IRQ 12 and my NIC kept 10. Still locked up. After wasting another few hours I finally ended up with the soundcard in a PCI slot not previosly used, and my NIC where my soundblaster used to be. If that didn't work I was going to return it. Well lucky for me it worked. But, it's right back to the NIC and Soundblaster sharing IRQ 10. So why did the new slot but same IRQ make it work? I really don't understand why it works now. Anyone have any ideas? I'm very curious as to why it wasn't working and now is.

By the way, now that it's working, it sounds REALLY good. All my music sounds about 5 times better. Honestly, I really like it a lot. Too bad it was such a bi*ch to get working.

And $42 is a great price. Does it change the gaming experience?

It probably would have if I didn't already have a sb live 5.1 with 5.1 speakers. But I like the sound better, and playing games is definetely REALLY cool. Especially BF1942. I can hear explosions all around me and pinpoint where they all are. It's definitely worth getting if you get at least fourpoint speakers with it.
