Hey all,
Within the last week, my dvd drive on my AMD XP (with windows xp) computer has gone bonkers. Just tonight I tried playing a Lord of the Rings DVD on it and it acted really funny. It took a long time to open (and until it did it made funny whirring and clicking noises while the "reading"light was on). I put the disc in and it didn't find anything in the drive. When I tried to take it out, it whirred and clicked some more. Then it opened about a half-an-inch before closing again. It repeated this three times then stopped trying to read it. I tried restarting the computer multipe times, and even checked to see if everything was hooked up properly inside--in case something had come loose or whatever. Nothing changed. I can't even play a cd-rom disc in it, so I don't think it's the disc itself. Also, I went through Windows troubleshooting (that was a laugh ) but it didn't help. My "device manager" thingy said that the drive was "working properly."Any ideas? I was hoping to watch this awesome movie with my little brother, until this stupid computer started getting me mad.

Shut the computer down, unplug it from the wall outlet, open the case, and reseat the ribbon cable at both ends and reseat the power cable. If it still goes nuts, the drive is most likely defective, try a different drive or try your drive in a different computer to verify.

haha, very funny rbraun21.
I'll send you the bill.glc, I did what you suggested. It acts the same way. I guess it's defective. But it was working just a few days ago! ![]() Oh well, any other suggestions would be helpful. Otherwise, thanks for your help. |
