My recently built computer has started to experience an unusual power on problem. I usually power on the monitor first then turn on the computer. Well I did this the other day and after I turned on the computer nothing ever showed on the monitor (monitor led stayed orange). Well I hit the reset switch and then everything came up as normal. I didn't think to much about it at the time but yesterday the problem seem to get worse. I powered on the monitor then the computer but the same thing happened as before but this time the reset switch didn't work neither did the power button for that matter. The hard drive led on front of the case stayed lit as if it were locked up or something. I had to flip the power supply switch in order to restart the computer but when it came up it started in the BIOS. I hit exit discarding changes and then the computer booted normally. Everything appears normal once the computer is up and running.
System: Asus P4PE, 2.53GHz, 512MB Samsung PC2700, Sapphire 8500, Maxtor 80GB hard drives Any thoughts as to what my problem is. Mr. Gin |

Check to see if "Init AGP" is selected first in BIOS, not PCI.

reboot,
I'll check that out tonight. Wouldn't I have had this problem from the start if that were the case though? The computer had worked flawlessly for the first three weeks of it's life. Strange indeed. Mr. Gin |

Try reseating the graphics card and Ram.
If that don't work, then try clearing the CMOS via the jumper on the mobo. HTH |

reboot,
I didn't see the option to "Init AGP" in the BIOS the only thing close was a setting for "primary VGA BIOS". Is that the same thing you were referring to? It was set to "PCI VGA CARD" so I changed it to "AGP VGA CARD". mike, I'll try your suggestions if the problems persists. Thanks, Mr. Gin |

Yes, Mister Gin, that's the same thing.
Is it booting normally now? |

Mike,
It did boot okay the few times i tried it last night. I'll continue to monitor it and if the problem persists I'll try what you suggested. If it was that this setting was wrong all along why did it take 3 weeks to show up? With this set to "PCI VGA CARD" what other issues could I have seen? Mr. Gin |
