Alright I just got this kick ass (at least I think it is kick ass) Hard Drive. It's a Western Digital 120GB Caviar with a 8MB buffer which should be nice for my server. Now I'm in the process of building a multi-function server for my house. I have not decided on all the components I want just yet but I know next to nothing about Hard Drive cards, should I get a PCI card and run my Hard Drive off of that instead of straight to an IDE on the motherboard? And what cards would make this thing faster I used to have a ATA/166 card or something but it is old and I'm sure they make faster better cards that would be more logical thanks guys!

For a server, a 15,000rpm SCSI drive is hard to beat. If it is a Server for your house, the drive will be fine. An add-on PCI controller card would help but not tremendously.

well I'm not planning on setting up a corporate server that everybody relies on, its just going to be a file and backup server for my house so it doesnt have to rip data at high speeds. I'm just curious whether having a controller card inline with it will increase speeds enough to make a noticable difference...

Hi,
Does the motherboard you plan to use this drive with not support ATA/100? If it does, just plug it into the motherboard it will be fine. HTH |

well I am still deciding about the mobo, I have one that older but cheap and was good a few years ago, I guess if I got one like that I would get a controller card but There is also a new Gigabyte mobo that I want that definitly supports ATA/100
