Major Sound problems
heya, I built my first computer a few months ago, and after frying the first board ( so thats what those little brass things were for?!)Anyways I have everything running great except one...The sound system, I always get this crackling, poping noise from the speakers, I tried Buying a sound card insted of using the onboard sound sys. still no luck. For a little info that might help the more educated out there. If i play music with WMP. w/o the visualasation on its ok, but if I turn it on it starts crackling again. The also happens with games, dvd's anything that makes the screen move basically. I "Think" Its a grounding problem, but i'm still a noob at building computers where problems are conserned.
My system: ECS K7S5A motherboard /w duron 1400 mg processor, 128 ddr ram, dvd/cd burner, soundblaster audigy, voodoo 3 gfx card. |

Try jigling the cable that plugs into the soundcard.
Try raising the volume full blast in the system tray and physically turn the volume knob down on the speakers. I'm guessing that either it's a bad connection or the sub-amp (your PC) isn't cranked up all the way, so the speakers are a full blast and starting to distort the sound.

paniel79,
Just a thought, but how do your IRQ's look? Got the sound card sharing something? Also what slot is the sound card in? It should NOT be in the pci slot next to the AGP unless you have onboard video. Carl |

good thought carl, I checked both and the sound card is actually farthest from the AGP slot, and thinking back I had the sound problems with the on board ac '97 sound card (which i have disabled from bios setup) and I checked the IRQ's there fine also. I still think this is a grounding issue. Any idea's about the grounding or what to check on the mother board?

pdaniel79,
I'm not that familiar with the ECS mobo. Does it have VIA chipsets? You could check an updated 4n1 driver. Did you remove all the onboard sound drivers? I'm just throwing things out for you to look at as each one has been a problem here at PCMechanic in the past. Carl |
