Inexspensive upgrade?
I have a fellow worker who has a PII and is talking about upgrading. He mostly uses the internet and email and what he calls gaming, which is playing freecell and the like. He has cable internet now. I've gone to newegg and picked out the following components. Would they suffice?

OEM Thermaltake VOLCANO 6Cu+. Heatsink + Dual Ball-Bearing Fan Wouldn't the onboard graphics and sound be enough for his needs? And if he ever did want to upgrade his graphics the board has a agp slot.

From your description it's probably more computer than he needs. In fact the PII is probably more computer than he needs!

That looks good to me for what he intends to do. You could even go down on the cpu a little bit (if there's a big pricegap between this and the next model down, if he wants to save money. HTH

I agree with floppyman. An XP 1700+ would be more than enough for his needs. It'll save a little bit of cash.

LOL suitcase my next door neighbor is the same way. For along time I thought even though he has a good job I thought he must be the biggest software pirate in town. He was always telling me was downloading this or that. One day he asked me for some help downloading M$ Visio. I told him I wouldn't help him but I probably had a copy of the Pro version I would sell him at my cost.
He gave me a strange look and asked me why would he want to buy another copy of the same program he had just purchased that very day. I went over and looked at his home office computer. It wasn't even connected to the internet. LOL ... but he had more software boxes than the M$ museum. That's when I figured out what he meant by downloading. |
