Another memory question
I was looking at theses memory sticks
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Corsair 512MB DDR XMS2700 Platinum CAS2 (MY-005-CS) While there is now an official JEDEC specification for PC2700 memory this is nothing new to Corsair who were providing guaranteed 333MHz (DDR) memory long before anyone else. Fitted with integral heat spreader to aid in memory cooling. Full Specification Price: £101.85 (£119.67 Including VAT at 17.5%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Corsair 512MB DDR XMS2700LL Low Latency Platinum CAS2 (MY-012-CS) Corsair XMS2700LL Low Latency uses exactly the same memory chips as Corsair XMS3200 with a special SPD - pre-set to aggressive memory timings of CAS2-2-2-5-1T - for those who'd rather not experiment with BIOS settings. Full Specification Price: £116.65 (£137.06 Including VAT at 17.5%) Now what does it mean - for those who'd rather not experiment with BIOS settings ?? does this mean if i get the top one on my list i have to mess around with bios settings just to install some memory ?? |

In that second one, it just means that the SPD chip on the RAM will tell the BIOS what memory timings to use automatically.

No... you don't "need" to mess around in the BIOS with the other chip, it will run at a default setting. If you want to tweak out the last ounce of performance from your system or overclock, then you would start experimenting with memory timings.

Yeah, it would work fine. Like HAL said, it'll just use the default settings and go from there.

It's starting to get a bit confusing - we seem to have multiple threads in multiple forums going concerning this one build. I'd like to see things concentrated in one thread somewhere so we can all be on the same page when giving advice.
