Recently a friend purchased a Athalon 850mhz.He did not realize he had purchased a socket A.He thought it was a slot A.Is one better then the other ,what are the differences beside's the obvious slot and socket.

Socket A is newer and the future. The Socket A has the L2 cache on chip so it is much faster than the Slot A which will be phased out.
