cd drive ---> cup holder

there is the common reference to new computer users mistaking the cd drive as a cup holder, what i was think was if you could get a really old cd rom drive, still works fine but way too slow couldn't you make a custom metal tray with more support in the back, and turn cd drive in the top 5.25 bay into an actual cup holder. Its just a crazy idea that dawned on my this second, and thought i would ask.

im not talking monster drinks like 7-11 jumbo double gulp, just a 12oz can or soemthing small.

i tought of that and decided i wouldn't deal with that yet, i dont think ill ver try this just wondering if people thoguht it would actually be possible, i definitely wuld not plug in ide cable, i would just plug in power cable. Maybe somesort of sealant in unnecesarry cracks to prevent liquid from getting inside rest of computer. Bear in mind 12ox soda cans dont have a very high spillage rate, little little hole.

find one of the things on car cup holders where the bottom part can come out to support the cup underneath you know? just have to make sure it goes really thin cause you have really little to work with...

you could custom make soemthing out of a flat plate in case of spillage... just glue (not screw... well you could try but i wouldn't) it onto the the bottom of the drive where headphone plug is and all that and have it spring loaded so when you open the tray it gives way then when there is room it auto goes and covers up the big hole in the middle that'd be bad for spills... you know in the center... just have a flap that comes up into there...
