Depends on which IDE cable you're using. If it's a 80 wire UltraATA IDE cable, set the hard drive jumper to CS or CSel (cable select). Blue connector goes to the motherboard, black connector to the drive you want as master and grey connector to the drive you want as slave.

If you're using a 40 wire ATA IDE cable, set the hard drive jumper to master (or if you're using a Western Digital hard drive, remove the jumper completely if it's the only drive on the IDE cable). Position on the IDE cable doesn't matter.

Some hard drives have the jumper setting on the hard drive? Does yours? Did your come with any documentation?

Just take out the pins and follow the chart that is on your hard drive if you have one on there. I use some small pliers to remove mine. It’s very simple.

Read my previous post...it depends on the type of IDE cable you're using. A 80 wire IDE cable will have 3 different colored connectors and the surface texture of the ribbon is fine. A 40 wire IDE cable will have a rougher surface texture and the connectors will all be the same color.

It really doesn't matter...but once you install it in one position, never turn it to another position or you'll shorten it's lifespan.

I install all my hard drives with the label up.

Set it to CS (cable select).

Up to you. I bundle mine up and use nylon zip ties to control the mess.

Here's what my computer looks like inside: PII 400MHz
