Well, I got it all together, everything seems to be okay. The HD is formatting as I type, Win2K. Thanks for the help in getting ready for this, my first build. Without you guys, I woulda freaked out when I started.
Thanks a ton, and I'll keep you up to date as I get it finalized. I know I'll have a few thousand questions

Alright! My first post on the new rig!
Now for my first question ![]() My onboard 440X 10/100 lan connection is showing up fine in system. No conflicts, BIOS is enabled, but when I plug my LAN line up, nada. I installed my PCI LAN card, and it works. I even get the little LAN unplugged icon on my tool bar. What could be the prob? |

You need to install the drivers for your LAN. If it's on-board LAN the drivers will be in the CD that came with your Motherboard!

The drivers are already installed. The port is functioning fine, as far as the system says, no question mark in the system hardware dialog, I installed the stuff in the ASUS disk, but still nothing. Is there a utility I can run to test the onboard, or could it be the cable or somthing?
Thanks |

Does Windows show the LAN under Network Connections? If not, uninstall the LAN device through Device Manager, and reboot. Windows will detect it, and it will show up under Network Connections. Is the 'A Network Cable is Unplugged' icon showing up in the Taskbar, or do you see nothing? I'd check Network Connections, then go from there.

Yeah, the network connection shows up,and it shows the dosconnected icon in the taskbar. If I unplug my PCI LAN card, it shows connection 1 and connection 2 as disconnected.
Ill try to reinstall it and see what happens. |

What connection are you using now? Maybe you should disable it. If you are running a 56K Modem, disable it.

No modem installed. Im on a Linksys LAN card right now, because the onboard didn't work. I started without the card.
