Unhappy My PC wont shut down

I recently put together a PC for my daughter and all seemed well. It's a AMD Athlon 1700 XP and I'm running Win XP Home. What's happening (or not )is when I go to shut down the PC..........it wont shut down. I go to : Start, Turn off computer, then Standby, Restart, Turn off. I click to shut down the PC, it tells me windows is saving my settings, windows is shutting down, but then instead of the "it is now safe to turn off your computer" message, the PC just boots back up again.
I tried then to push the power button to shut it off, and again I got the same thing. Any ideas why it wont shut down like it should.

Thanx Cricket

I see that the problem must be related to the Roxio/Adeptec Easy CD / Direct CD software. Just a few days ago I bought a new cd-burner for my pc and put the HP re-writer in hers, loaded the adeptec Direct CD software, did the XP update from their web site and I believe thats when it began acting up. I will go to her house this weekend and uninstall the software and see if that fixes the problem.
I guess I'll put NERO in it, unless you know of another good program that works well with XP.

Thanx again
Gary

I use the latest version of Nero on my WinXP computer...works great. Haven't used Easy CD Creator since it went over to ROXIO.

I like the NERO in my own PC, it's far easier to use than the older version of HP Direct CD. I didn't put it in her's because I had the software that came with the HP Re-Writer Plus, so I just used that.
I bought the Liteon 52x24x52 Re-Writer for mine and it came with the NERO software, but I see it states on the disk that "this software will only work with the CD-recorder it came bundled with". Well, it cant hurt to try it on her's. I'll try it this weekend, if it doesn't work I'll have to buy another one.
