problem with speakers, please help

hey guys,

something weird has happened today... i was listening to something over my speakers (altec lansing 641s) and suddenly there was a loud droning sound coming from my subwoofer. while this happened the music played normally through the 4 satellite speakers. i turned off the speakers and turned them back on... the problem went away momentarily, but then returned... i've also noticed a strange spell coming from the sub (i think) it may smell like a component burning (what i'd imagine it'd smell like, i've never smelt it) but there's no smoke...

any ideas what has happened? is there anything i can do to fix the problem? if not, i only purchased these speakers in august, would there be any warrenty on them?

help would be most appreciated,

- ryan

Have you checked the plugs are all the way into the jacks?

yes, everything's connected properly.

the sub isn't working now. i've unplugged the speakers from the wall. i've since called altec lansing, and they've told me that i can return the speakers to the store at which i purchased them (as long as they were purchased within the last year, which they were) now the only problem is that i have to try to find the receipt... wish me luck!

i'm still wondering what caused the problem... it seems like a weird thing to have happen; the sub seems to have just died. perhaps that 'burning' smell was some wires being burnt inside the sub? i guess i'll never know.

god i hope i find that receipt, otherwise it's more money down the toilet.

Post Note to self

1. Get an old shoe box.
2. Put all reciepts in it.
3. Remember to follow own advise.

I made me a sign that says this and it has paid off several times.

Some stores are willing to look up your receipt in their computer, call them and ask if this is the case before you waste too much more time looking for it.
