Recommended cooling?

I need a decent CPU HSF. I'm getting an athlon xp 2200 and 512MB RAM PC3200 on an Asus A7N8X mobo. All other stuff is in my sig.

I'm not looking for a fan with flashing lights or one that will sing me lullabies to me. I just want decent cooling.

Any recommendations? Thanks.

Or get the retail "processor in a box" and get the 3 year warranty that it comes with.

I like the Speeze CPU Fan Model 5F263B1M3. Not only is it cheap (14 bucks including shipping on newegg) it also uses an 80mm fan so it is quiet. Really a great performing cooler at a low price and if you need more noise you have a very large selection of cheap 80mm fans that you can rplace the one on it with.

I have that speeze cooler and it didn't give me very good cooling at all. The chepo one that I had with a 60mm fan worked better. I know there is a problem there somewhere, can anyone tell me what it is???? Thanks

What kind of temps are you seeing and where are you getting the temp readings from? BIOS or a Windows temp monitor utility?

Did you use that same exact model Speeze heatsink I posted?

Yes! The exact same model. I think it is a whisper rock something or other. The temps form my motherboard are 108 degrees F idle and the same with the exception of 1 degree higher under load. I only have a 1700+ palamino and I don't like it running that hot. I have a really big chieftec Dragon gamers case with a thermaltake dual fan PSU. Any suggestions? Thanks

ok, 2 reports of that and I'm crossing the Speeze off the list.

What about the others? Does anyone have experience with the Thermalright SK-6, SK-7, SLK-800, or Vantec Aeroflow Cooler?

108F is only 42C - that's an excellent temperature - what's the problem?

Don't ask me...I'm the one who asked for advice on cooling in the first place.

Could you give me a rough price estimate for those fans you mentioned? I would make it so much easier for me to find them...

i like the slk 800, great cooling, dunno about eh speeze, never used it, seems so cheap to me to be a great cooler compared to the heavy slk800. just put a quiet fan on the 800 and ur set to go, the sk-7 and 6 are good to but not as good as big bro 800 =D

Do I need to rub thermal compound into the heatsink when I first get it? I did that on my Cooler Master for my last one...
