idea for a casemod dd thoughts, pos or negative

it has been an old dream of mine to build a computer in an old army case ( like a ammunition case or something like that, pressed steal and ollive drab coloured, i take it you undestand the type of case i mean.)
afther running it throug my head for several years i have now a surpluss mobo ( 233 pentium 2 slot A the rest of the specs don't realy matter ) this pc is a left over so if it goes horrebly horrebly wrong, that's not a big deal.
as i said i have been running it trough my head long enoug to have a plan.
instead of starting to make a lot of small holes ans chaping pci-holders in the case the the idea is to put the enitre backside of the case the cm is in now, into a large (cut to size hole) in the ammo case, same for the backplate that holds the mobo, and for the drivebays.
i have virtually no experience with casemod's but i have some experience working with metal.
those this plan have anny flaws or seem undo-able for annyone???

i got acess to pretty good equipment,
my uncle owns a metalworkshop, makes custom scales, i think i can get him to help me, if it's not to mutch work, and i planned it right, i e i know what i want to do and how i want to do it.
that's the rerason for this post.

I've seen a computer built into a ammo can (must have been big rounds as the can was pretty big...20mm or 30mm cannon shells?). The guy used if for LAN parties...was painted in a camo scheme and it looked pretty neat.

My only thought was that it would be hard to find an ammo box large enough. Now if yoy do I think the best thing to do would be to work with wood. Epoxy a 1/2" slate to each side and then you can use spacers to attach the mobo and you can add wood shelves for the hd... I would think having worked with a lot of ammo cases it might be hard to get everything in there.

I love wierd case ideas and this one is great, I hope it works for you. I saw in some pc magazine a pc built into a microwave.

ok I did a little research now http:\\www.cheaperthandirt.com sells a 50 cal ammo can now if this is what your looking at to build your case it is only 11" l x 5.5" w x 10" d. So it will be a tight fit close to desktop size. If you really decide to do this I belive the best thing to do is cut a small hole as an exit for the cables and not to remove the whole side. if you put a small hole at the back of the lid then you can pop open the lid and through the cables inside but unless I have the kind of ammo can you want wrong then it will be a tight fit and your drives will have to be on there sides.

11.75x6.75x8.25. I got the feeling you will have to go with the 20mm can but if you search at yahoo for (army surplus ammo can) you'll find a bunch of sites and most of them are cheaper than $25.00

thanks, there are a bunch of army surplus stores, i'll go and check out them first i think, at least now i know what to look for, as for it beeing hard to fit, i have time to puzzle it together, thanks also for th tip on the wood and teh epoxy, had not tought of that, i had assumed the wood would result in heat issues?
