Can Laptop Hard Drive Be Plugged In To Desktop PC

Friends laptop is broken. Battery not working and power adapter connection broken. He needs the contents of his latpop hard drive copied. Could a laptop hard drive be plugged into a desktop PC?

i have seen adapters that allow you to put pc cards into your computer, and i've seen adapters that convert laptop harddrives into pc cards... i guess the two could be used in conjunction.

If you mean a direct IDE connection, then no. Laptop HDD's usually use a different interface. You'll need an adapter as Homer said.

[edit]: Typo.

I have used this converter. It is cheap, and easy to use.
