3.06 GHz motherboards....
If anyone out there has a 3.06GHz processor, can you please tell me what Motherboard you use. I am trying to find a good board with hyper-threading technology. Thanks. And even better, can you, if possible, can you provide a link to the motherboard site...Thanks...

Does that have HT technology, because my cousin has that board, and says it is really good, and I would like to stick with Abit as that is what I use now, and like it...
And are you running 3.06 right now? |

The IT7 MAX2 Version 2.0 has support for HyperThreading. Comes with two SATA ports, 10 USB 2.0 ports, 3 FW ports and no legacy ports. Definitely recommend it.

Very cool, thats probably the one I will get, or I will just wait for the new Canterwood chipset, and see what that has in store for us...

You can afford that 3.06GHz P4? Lucky man you are...
Is like $700 now, or did it drop in price.

It's still too much. I prefer to wait until the P4s with 1MB in cache come out. And then I will wait a little more to buy one.

Nuke, wow, 10 USB 2.0 ports? What do you need all of *them* for?

LOL, yeah, dont you have a network card? And why would you waste your money on an external hard drive? Internal is so much better and space effective. Unless your case only has 1 Hard Drive port...

External Firewire and USB 2.0 hard drives are very handy - they are plenty fast and they are portable.

I do have a NIC but I will be using it for a network and it is easier to share the internet connection if you use the USB port (or so I have been told). The cable modem have both jacks: RJ45 and USB.

Get the AMD 3000 XP if you want a cool 3.0 ghz chip if you ask me. Or perhaps the new Opteron!

Is the Athlon 3000+ really running at 3 GHz? I don't think so due to AMD PR.

Nuke: When you do your network, just get a router and use the RJ-45 port. I remember reading one of your posts complaining that your 256 connection is only running at 177? I'd bet that the USB overhead might be eating some of your bandwidth.
Expensive? If you look around 80 gigs is under $200 and 200 gigs is under $400. More expensive than internal IDE, yes, but not "very" expensive. Any external storage device will be more expensive than an equivalent internal device, but you gain portability which is important to some people, you can keep a backup off-site, for example, or plug it into a laptop - and it's a lot faster and easier to use than tapes, and they hold a lot more than CD-R's and Zip cartridges. |
