new build up and running no problems!!

I have just completed my first build with NO problems at all....WOOOO!!!

AMD athlon xp 2100+
Thermaltake volcano 9 coolmod heatsink/fan (which is not too loud)
1024 MB PC 2700 DDR RAM
Maxtor 80 GB (partitioned into 2 partitions of 40 GB) and 30 GB Quantium fireball (from my VAIO)
ATI Radeon 9000 pro 128 MB
Asus A7N8X deluxe
Lite-on 16x/40X Cd-rom/DVD-ROM
Lite-on 52x/24x/52x CD-RW drive
frontal audio and usb (still need to mount firewire ports for front)
Windows XP home
1 1.44 MB 3.5" floppy
tri-colored cold cathode (red, green, blue)
3 case fans

It took me about 3 to 4 hours to finish this first build

*feels proud that she booted it up with no problems*

It's a nice change to hear of someone setting up an A7N8X with no problems.

Well done!

This is proof that it can be done, and done right, the first time.
I'm still amazed at the troubles people have getting the first successful boot from a new build.
I'm of the school that says, "do as I say, not as I do", which means, that I'm the sort that stuffs everyting in the case, and hooks it all up, and then hit's the power switch. Not really the best way to do a build, but I've rarely had one fail, and it's usually because of a faulty part, not the way it's built.
There is no magical formula for building, and it's not near as complicated as people think.
The single most important tool one needs, is patience.
Congrats on the nice build!

Thanks everyone.

I was dancing and stuff when it booted up and all the fans were spinning and everything and stuff appeared on the screen... lol. I'm especially proud of my first build.. there are a few adjustments that I still want to make such as the cabling being a bit messy and I'm wanting to fix that.... however, my power supply's leads are pretty long, so that's gonna be a little difficult. I still need to take a trip to comp usa and mount another fan that blows air out, and than hopefully if I have the money, get me a good set of speakers with a subwoofer... since the A7N8X has GREAT sound. I bet it's even better with a set of speakers with a subwoofer and surround speakers

Amazingly, setting up the A7N8X was not hard. A lot of people were telling me, good luck with the BIOS... but it only took me 10 minutes to set (mostly I had the default settings)

The only part that I kinda messed up on was putting the floppy lead in the wrong direction so when I had the POST test, it said there was no floppy but I just reversed the way the lead went in... no big deal...

One part that sucked when building was putting on the heatsink. It was really hard to put on... and now I don't want to take it off ever. I still can't get my I/O shield to go on all the way..

Can anyone tell me how to put in front firewire ports? as I will be doing that sooner or later.

It only took me about 20 minutes to install windows xp. When I installed in on my VAIO it took an hour and a half.

on your firewire look on page 28 in the manual. it shows where the wires go. then you match up the littles wires in your case.

The I/O shield need's to be installed from inside the case, before you install the Mobo.I may be wrong but it sound's like you're trying to put it on from the back?

It was very fun.... but I was nervous so I grounded myself EVERY time I touched a part. I thought that it was going to take a bit longer than just 3 to 4 hours.

For the firewire ports.... I have holes in the front of my case for them and I need something that will fit there but I can't seem to find any thing .

I will try putting on the I/O shield from the back later on.

Thanks for all the help.

hmmm... well, I took a lot of breaks in between and such but I would say, I did it within about 5 to 6 hours or so.

Jim - I heard that! I usually do a quick POST on the table just to make sure the mobo, CPU, and ram is good, then I throw everything in the case. I *have* had to strip a few back down, but not too many.

hmmmm
CPU: 104
RAM:120
Video card: 130
motherboard: 140
case: 70
heatsink:30
CD-RW: 60
DVD-ROM: 40
Hard drive: 100
power supply: 40
Floppy: 30
Mods/fans/cables: 40

These costs are approximate..... so around 900 to 950 bucks. I paid 1600 for my VAIO when I got it and it's not nearly as good as this build in my opinion.

When I get more money I am going to get a set of speakers because right now I only have 2 speakers with no sub, and when prices drop, a DVD-RW drive.

The side view, it's crappy because it was taken with my webcam, I don't have a digital camera available right now as a friend is borrowing mine.

The cabling job is not the best either, but it's good for me since it's my first build. One of these days I will fix it and make it really organized. But it does not constrict the air flow

This case came with a CPU duct to take hot air from the CPU and blow it out, but I do not have enough room for it since the duct is HUGE. My heatsink cools my CPU relatively well... right now my temperature is 39C.
